This panel will explore self-distribution as a key strategy for filmmakers seeking to maintain creative control over their films and how to build the marketing budget and campaign that makes self-distribution a success. Featuring expert filmmakers, distributors, and strategists including acclaimed filmmakers, Dr. Jenny Mackenzie and Sohrab Mirmont, EVP of Global Theatrical Distribution at Angel Studios, Brandon Purdie, and Publicist and Owner of Zions Indie Film Fest, Michelle Moore.

Brandon Purdie

Brandon Purdie is a veteran of the film industry with over 24 years of experience in theatrical distribution. As Executive Vice President of Global Theatrical Distribution at Angel Studios, he leads the worldwide release of the studio’s powerful films, including the breakout hit *Sound of Freedom* and *The King of Kings*, along with upcoming titles like Truth & TreasonThe Seniorand Zero AD. Known for his disruptive, grassroots-driven approach, Purdie has helped redefine independent film distribution and expand the global reach of Angel’s mission-driven content. In addition to his executive leadership, Purdie has produced several acclaimed films, including Bears of Durango, The Last Rodeo, Homestead, and The King of Kings. A respected thought leader, he frequently shares his insights on industry panels, podcasts, national media, and trade publications. Through his work, he remains committed to championing stories that resonate deeply and amplify light around the world.

Jenny Mackenzie

Dr. Jenny Mackenzie’s films have aired on top broadcast and VOD channels such as HBO, HULU, PBS, and Amazon, and have received praise in the New York Times, The LA Times and The Hollywood Reporter. Her films include KICK LIKE A GIRL, SUGAR BABIES,  LEAD WITH LOVE, DYING IN VEIN, QUIET HEROES and THE RIGHT TO READ. Jenny has a bachelor’s degree from Brown University, a Ph.D. from the University of Utah and is an assistant professor in documentary film production at Utah Valley University.

Michelle Moore

Michelle Moore is a tenacious and experienced publicist, and currently serves as the Director of Content and New Production for a growing streaming platform, where she curates impactful stories and oversees original productions. She is also the owner and co-director of the Zions Indie Film Fest, which she runs alongside her husband—championing independent filmmakers and helping bring meaningful stories to the forefront.

With a background in publicity and media strategy, Michelle has worked closely with producers, directors, and actors to promote their films through strategic television and radio appearances. She’s developed a strong network of media relationships and understands the power of grassroots marketing and well-timed PR campaigns.

Michelle also brings a wealth of experience in navigating the independent film distribution landscape, having collaborated with numerous distributors across the U.S. Her creative thinking, meticulous attention to detail, and passion for storytelling give filmmakers a first-class experience and real-world results.

Michelle offers invaluable insight into self-distribution, audience building, and how to effectively market a film from the inside out.

Sohrab Mirmont

Sohrab Mirmont embarked on his filmmaking journey in war-torn Iran, nurtured by his uncle, the acclaimed Director Abbas Kiarostami. Their basement sessions ignited Sohrab’s passion for storytelling, which only intensified when his family relocated to America to escape the tumultuous political landscape.

Enrolling in Full Sail University at 19, Sohrab’s talent blossomed with his debut short film, “The Beautiful Wind,” winning the Audience Choice Award at the New York Int’l Film Festival. This success catapulted him into Hollywood’s spotlight, earning recognition as a “Filmmaker to Watch” by Digital Filmmaker Magazine UK.

With “The Freemason,” starring Sean Astin, Sohrab solidified his position in the industry, clinching multiple awards at the Comic Con Film Festival and achieving theatrical distribution with over 300% profits.

Beyond the silver screen, Sohrab’s collaboration with the BBC on impactful documentaries, alongside his philanthropic efforts with Vision Cambodia, showcases his commitment to meaningful storytelling and global change.

As the founder of Mirmont Pictures, he’s produced dozens of commercials driving tens of millions of dollars in sales. His recent feature film, “Riddle of Fire,” shot on 16mm Kodak Film, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and is set for a theatrical release in March 2024.

Additionally, his film “Green Flake” sparked a movement, contributing to the creation of monuments honoring its true-life characters.

Currently, Sohrab is expanding his horizons with a slate of international coproduction projects, continuing his mission to inspire through cinema.
