Meet the Artist: Tyler Measom (Takin’ Care of Business)

An in-person craft-focused conversation with the director of the recent music documentary, Takin’ Care of Business, Tyler Measom.

Together, we will discuss the current landscape of mainstream documentary filmmaking. Tyler will speak to his experiences as a producer and director of nonfiction music and true crime projects and how to strike the balance between inspired storytelling and making work that sells. We will use Takin’ Care of Business as a case study and discuss Tyler’s funding and distribution strategies. Filmmakers will be invited to ask questions and participate in the conversation.

Tyler Measom

Award-winning filmmaker Tyler Measom had two feature films premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, as the director of Takin’ Care of Business and as the producer of Space Cowboy (producer). 

Measom is the director of the Paramount+ series I Wanna Rock: Chasing the 80’s Metal Dream. He is also the co-director of the hit Netflix series Murder Among the Mormons. He has also co-directed the documentaries I Want My MTV (Tribeca, A&E), An Honest Liar (Tribeca, ITVS) and Sons of Perdition (Tribeca, OWN). He has produced the films Space Cowboy (TIFF 2024) TAKE (Tribeca, Showtime), the Showtime doc Jesus Town, USA. Measom is the producer and host of the Webby Award winning documentary podcast Was I In a Cult?  Tyler is currently directing the music documentary If These Walls Could Rock. Measom lives in sunny Pasadena, California with his wife, their five year old child, and a massive lemon tree.
