Meet the Artist: Rebecca Davis (Join or Die)

An in-person craft-focused conversation with the director of the recent documentary, Join or Die, Rebecca Davis. Together, we will discuss her film and the unique questions it poses about the importance of community within a democracy. Rebecca will speak to her experiences as Producer and Director of the film. We will specifically explore the research process for documentary filmmaking. Filmmakers will be invited to ask questions and participate in the conversation. Moderated by writer, filmmaker, and Utah Film Center Film Exhibition and Artist Support Coordinator, Kate Sensenig.

Moderator: Kate Sensenig

Kate Sensenig (she/they), is a writer and aspiring filmmaker originally from Maine. As the Film Exhibition and Artist Support Coordinator at the Utah Film Center, she works directly with their programming department to bring diverse and inspired stories to Utah audiences. Before joining the Utah Film Center in February 2024, Kate worked as a set production assistant in Los Angeles on multiple short films, commercials, and features such as Annapurna Pictures’ NIGHTBITCH (2024)Kate holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Scripps College and has a background in multiple disciplines including creative writing, music, journalism, filmmaking, and theater.

Artist: Rebecca Davis

Rebecca Davis has produced for HBO, VICE, Al Jazeera and A&E — and was the supervising producer for Season 2 of Vox’s hit Netflix show, Explained. She was a senior producer with NBC News for nearly a decade, where her work focused on social movements, environmental and economic justice, and community innovators. Join or Die is her first feature-length documentary.
