Utah Queer Film Festival Workshop – Acting 101: Back to Kindergarten Recess

October 26, 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm
Location: Utah Film Center
$15-35

As kids, we were all actors by instinct: limitless imagination, Oscar-worthy commitment to our roles playing chef in the toy kitchen or mermaids in the kiddie pool or superhero on the school bus without a drop of self consciousness about how believable we are at being those things, just simply being them!! This workshop takes an approach to acting that is about tapping back into that energy, getting the self-conscious and perfectionistic adult out of the way, and letting that inner child, the true master of pretend, take the reins.

What to Expect:

  • Check-in & introductions: who we are, how we are, hopes, fears, dreams, schemes, maybe even a little show and tell.
  • Warm-ups – Physical and vocal moves and grooves to plop back into our bodies, shake off self-consciousness, and get ready for recess!
  • Playground-esque Exercises – Games that celebrate silliness, embarrassment, instinct, curiosity, and chaos!!
  • Monologue & Scene Work – now we’re all loosey goosey and on our marks and set, it’s time for show and tell! Bring a monologue/scene you’ve been working on for self tapes or just a role you’ve daydreamed of stepping into (whether it be from film, tv, theatre, a novel, anything!) and let it rip! I’ll also provide material for anyone who needs it. Let’s play!!!
