Community Screening: Zulian Pretzel & Anastasis

Join us for the world premiere of Zulian Pretzel, written and directed by Harold Bohorquez. This short film follows a police officer who recruits two teenagers running an illegal food stand to help save his wife’s failing restaurant. Kicking off the night is a work-in-progress screening of Anastasis, written and directed by Josie Maye Hurtley. This sci-fi family drama tells the story of a trans woman and her father stranded on a desolate planet, where they must rebuild not just their spaceship but their fractured relationship in order to survive. After the screenings, stay for a Q&A with the directors, followed by a networking reception. Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate emerging Utah talent at the Utah Film Center!

Co-presented by the Artist Foundry. Zulian Pretzel was selected to pitch at the 2025 Artist Foundry Pitch Competition and Anastasis won 2nd place at the 2024 Artist Foundry Pitch Competition. Cayden Turnbow

Producer, Zulian Pretzel and Anastasis

Cayden Turnbow is a Salt Lake City based producer committed to elevating unique voices in independent filmmaking. He’s produced a wide range of short films, focusing on giving filmmakers the tools and support to bring their stories to life. Cayden’s experience working with Slamdance Film Festival, Salt Lake Film Society and Salt Lake City Arts Council have deepened his understanding of both the indie film circuit and the local arts community, offering insight into both its opportunities and challenges. His projects have screened at festivals such as FilmQuest and Camp Film Fest. His recent sci-fi family drama Anastasis further strengthened his ties to the local film scene, laying the foundation for his most ambitious project yet: Zulian Pretzel. Passionate about fostering emerging talent, Cayden is dedicated to championing stories that challenge, inspire, and resonate.

Harold Bohorquez

Director, Zulian Pretzel

Writer-Director Harold Bohorquez is a Venezuelan-American filmmaker based in Salt Lake City. Currently freelancing and managing a YouTube channel, his short films have collectively reached 500K across social media. Harold continues to hone his craft by focusing on desperate characters pushed to their extremes. His work explores themes of redemption, family dysfunction, and alienation, brought to life through an eccentric and bold visual style.

Josie Maye Hurtley

Director, Anastasis

Josie Maye Hurtley is a Production Designer with a director’s eye and a strong passion for visual storytelling. Her path into design began nearly 20 years ago, when watching the Star Wars behind-the-scenes sparked a lifelong fascination with world-building, sets, and miniature filmmaking.That early inspiration grew into a career defined by hands-on experience and a commitment to craft. Josie’s independent project, Anastasis, served as both a creative milestone and a self-taught film school, shaping her approach to design and storytelling. She now brings that same dedication and vision to her ongoing freelance work, creating immersive environments that support and elevate every story.
