Join us for an informational session with Victoria Luman and Mike Anderson, who lead Parr Brown Gee & Loveless’s Entertainment Law section, about the common legal issues facing creatives in today’s ever-changing legal landscape. Mike and Victoria will provide an overview of their practices and discuss when to consult with a lawyer and various legal issues you may encounter as you navigate the film industry.

Mike Anderson

Mike handles complex deals and disputes for clients throughout the entertainment industry, including film, television, music, publishing, radio, fashion, sports, theater, events, art, and media. While specific business and legal issues may vary from one project to the next, he provides clients with comprehensive legal counsel—often concerning contract, tort, securities, insurance, employment, constitutional, and intellectual property law.

Mike represents clients in transactions, litigation, and other projects throughout all sectors and segments of the entertainment industry. His clients range from unknown artists to household names, including directors, screenwriters, actors, producers, record labels, bands, musicians, composers, publishers, authors, sports leagues, teams, athletes, comedians, radio shows, podcasts, networks, newspapers, visual artists, agents, theaters, dance companies, conventions, concerts, festivals, and many others. He has extensive experience with all aspects of entertainment law from basic agreements in early stages to major-label record deals, hit television shows, best-selling novels, award-winning films, and high-stakes lawsuits. He founded the Entertainment Law section of the Utah State Bar, teaches “Arts, Sports, and Entertainment Law” at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, speaks regularly on media and entertainment law issues, and volunteers substantial time with numerous event, community, and art organizations.

Super Lawyers has repeatedly named Mike a “Rising Star,” a recognition awarded to no more than 2.5 percent of lawyers each year, for his work in litigation and entertainment law. He has also been recognized by Utah Business Magazine as one of Utah’s Legal Elite and included in The Best Lawyers in America®.

Victoria Luman

Victoria’s practice involves entertainment and media law and complex commercial litigation. Victoria has developed an expertise specific to media and entertainment law and handles a variety of issues for her clients throughout the television, film, music, and publishing industries. Victoria enjoys helping her clients in the entertainment industry find creative solutions to intersecting issues involving both entertainment and employment law. As a member of Parr Brown’s Entertainment Law practice, Victoria has represented numerous entertainers and artists on a wide variety of deals and projects throughout the entertainment industry—from major-label recording contracts to film and television deals—while working with directors, producers, musicians, publishers, screenwriters, authors, sports teams, and many others. Victoria enjoys working with creatives to help them navigate complex legal matters so that they can achieve their ultimate goal of sharing their art with the community.

Outside of her legal practice, Victoria devotes her time to volunteering with local organizations geared towards promoting inclusive education and youth initiatives. Victoria is a member of the Board of Spy Hop Productions, where she translates her expertise in entertainment law towards promoting Spy Hop’s mission of mentoring and educating students in the media arts. Victoria currently serves as a member of the Development Committee for The Children’s Center Utah, where she strives to raise awareness and funding for the vital mental health services the Center provides to children in need. Victoria is also a member of the Board of Junior Achievement of Utah, championing access to entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and work readiness curriculums in schools across the state.

Victoria has been recognized by Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch for 2024, and listed as one of Utah Business Magazine’s Legal Elite for 2022 and Mountain States Super Lawyers as a Rising Star for 2022-2024. In her free time, Victoria enjoys spending time fly fishing, hiking, biking, camping, surfing, and skiing with her husband, her two kids, and their Labrador retrievers, Gru and Lucy, who have been featured in a variety of outdoor industry advertisements and films. Despite their “professional” accolades, Gru and Lucy are still working to pay off debts incurred for eating shoes, coats, sleeping bags, television remotes, and house plants. But Victoria remains a proud dog mom, eager to tell anyone and everyone about them. She loves sharing her passion for the outdoors with her kids, and outside of work, you can find her enjoying Utah’s mountains with her family.
